In an upcoming episode of The Health Lottery’s “Paying it Forward” podcast, host Danni Menzies will sit down with Jill Harding from Dentaid to discuss the launch of a new charity dental unit in Weston-super-Mare this coming summer.
Dentaid, a leading dental charity dedicated to providing essential dental care to vulnerable populations throughout the UK, has joined forces with The Health Lottery. This partnership aims to enhance Dentaid’s capacity to deliver vital oral health services to those most in need, including individuals experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic abuse, and families impacted by poverty or substance abuse.
The charity’s approach involves deploying mobile dental units to accessible community locations such as hostels, soup kitchens, and community centers. These units are equipped to offer a range of treatments from fillings and extractions to oral cancer screenings and general health consultations, ensuring comprehensive care is available to those without regular access to dental services.
Jill Harding, Head of Communications at Dentaid, expressed excitement about the collaboration: “We are thrilled to embark on this journey with The Health Lottery. Their generous support is enabling us to expand our outreach efforts by launching our ninth charity dental unit. This new vehicle will facilitate our mission of bringing dental care directly to communities in need, starting with Weston-super-Mare on June 18th.”
The funding from The Health Lottery not only supports the operational setup of the new dental unit but also aids in providing dental clinics in Weston-super-Mare. These clinics will specifically serve individuals dealing with homelessness and those participating in harm reduction programs for alcohol and drug abuse.
“Our partnership with The Health Lottery marks a significant step forward in our ability to reach more people and make a lasting impact on their oral health and overall well-being,” Harding added.
Dentaid and The Health Lottery are committed to improving the health and social welfare of vulnerable communities across the UK through such impactful initiatives.
