Weddings are incredibly exciting experiences, but they’re nothing without a talented DJ behind the decks to steer the day along. “Wedding DJs provide an amazing service that can stick with all in attendance for many years,” says Alex Bennett, head of marketing at specialist music insurer musicGuard. “Although no two events are the same, a fair bit of controlled chaos can be expected throughout. That’s why it’s important to go into the day with some solid preparation so you can deliver your best work,” he adds.
Whether you’re a new wedding DJ or a veteran of the circuit, these top tips curated by musicGuard are sure to help you crush on that next special day!
1) Bring backup
A big one right out of the gate. It’s hard to think of a worse wedding planning scenario than the DJ calling the dance off after two songs with a broken system and no backup option! It’s impossible to know how events will unfold on the day, so bringing spare equipment might seem like a bit of a hassle, but it’s more than worth it as batteries can fail and speaker systems can break. Spares are doubly needed if the venue is far off the beaten track.
2) Become a digital DJ
In today’s events planning climate, an online presence is a necessity for generating new business. Consistent social media posts are a great way to get your name in the ring. By posting high-quality photos and videos of guests enjoying your sets, you’ll create an amazing impression.
You could also consider creating a professional-style website or handing out business cards at events, as after one wedding, there are likely many more to come.
3) Take control of the situation
While weddings are fun occasions for most, the bride and groom can be particularly stressed over the day running smoothly. That’s where you, the DJ, can step up and relieve some of that pressure by confidently announcing and moving the event along.
It’s very important to talk face-to-face with the bride and groom before the big day to gauge their wedding plans, the ideal order of events and the type of wedding playlist they’d prefer. Certain parts of the day such as the meal will need to be coordinated with the caterers, therefore it’s useful to ask the catering staff to remind you of the time close to key advances in the program.
“By ensuring you’re going into those big days with some structure and contingencies in case not all goes to plan, you can trust that you’ll create the dream package for newlyweds every time,” concludes Bennett.
