Michelin Guide 2023: Worcestershire restaurants that made the UK list

On 27th March, the Michelin Guide will reveal the full list of Michelin Stars and Green Stars for 2023 in its Guide for Great Britain and Ireland, with Worcestershire being incredibly well represented. Eight restaurants from across the county are featured in the guide, demonstrating that the region is well worth a visit for any foodie.

While the star ratings haven’t been announced yet, the restaurants in Worcestershire that have made the guide are Eckington Manor, The Inn at Welland, Black & Green, Pensons Restaurant, Russell’s, The Back Garden, MO and Buckland Manor. These restaurants cover a range of price points whilst delivering exquisite quality, which sets them apart from other restaurants in the region and adds to the culinary lifestyle Worcestershire offers.

Alongside the Bib Gourmand award and its famous Red Stars, the Michelin Guide now offers the Green Star as well. The Green Star is an award given to restaurants and companies that place a specific emphasis on sustainable foodstuffs, providing gourmet dishes whilst looking after the environment around them.

Chef Chris Simpson of Pensons Restaurant near Tenbury Wells says, “We are honoured to currently hold a Michelin star and a Michelin Green star and hope to retain these for the fifth consecutive year when they are announced in March. However, this can never be taken for granted as the Michelin inspectors require consistently high standards which is what the team and I strive for every day”.

After learning the news of their inclusion on the list Black & Green’s executive chef Andrew Sheridan said: “We are delighted Black & Green has been listed in the Michelin Guide in this year’s early announcements. It recognises our efforts to offer high-quality dining in a neighbourhood restaurant and is testament to the hard work of the Black & Green team.”

Martin Burge, Dormy House’s culinary director said “We are delighted that Dormy House’s The Back Garden and MO restaurants have been included within the 2023 Michelin Guide. Sustainability and seasonality are at the heart of our philosophy, and it’s great that Michelin has recognised the importance of this. As ever, I’m so proud of our team, without which this wouldn’t have been possible!”

Whilst there are plenty of other review aggregators and websites around, the Michelin Guide is, without a doubt, one of the most prestigious. Originally created by the tyre manufacturer of the same name as a valuable resource for travellers, the Michelin star is one of the most coveted awards around the world and is a sign of pure quality. Rather than customer reviews, Michelin stars are based on undercover inspections carried out by anonymous food experts.
