With new exhibitions in world-class museums, a much-anticipated hotel opening on the North Shore, award-winning dining options and the expansion of a unique cultural district, 2023 brings a host of new adventures and experiences for travellers to the city of Pittsburgh.
This year, there’s every reason to visit and with the increase in flight frequency with British Airways from four to six times per week from May, the city is more accessible than ever before.
New openings
The Landing Hotel, Northshore
The Landing Hotel at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh boasts 219 luxurious guest rooms and panoramic views of the city. Guests can benefit from complimentary breakfast, coffee, valet parking and even entertainment. Connected directly to the casino, the hotel has easy access to its restaurants, bars and entertainment venue, which hosts live musicians and DJs all year round. Cadence+, The Strip, Strip District
Housed in a renovated building dating back to 1826, CADENCE+ At The Strip is the newest attraction on the iconic Strip District’s block. . Within the building, CADENCE+ Cellars is a modern-industrial speakeasy bar and restaurant that boasts multiple private tasting rooms, offering the perfect place for those looking for an intimate experience. With live entertainment on selected days, visitors can enjoy premium dishes and creative cocktails every day of the week.
Christian James, Joinery Hotel Pittsburgh
The newest restaurant concept within Joinery Hotel Pittsburgh, Christian James proves that there’s a story behind every great dish. James’ menu features fare from around the world paired perfectly with his own personal anecdotes and history, all by creating a fictional character inspired by his own travels. Dishes to remember from the current menu include Indian-inspired goat vindaloo, Italian-rooted panna cotta and Filipino- style crispy pork.
Barcelona Wine Bar, Cultural District (tbc)
A favourite across numerous US states, Barcelona Wine Bar is an award-winning tapas bar which is due to take over the Cultural District. Offering more that 400 selections of wine, the dedicated restaurant will feature an expansive bar and outdoor dining area. The menu will feature Mediterranean, Spanish and South American cuisine with items from Jalapeño hummus to Basque Burnt Cheesecake.
Exhibitions
Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: Origin Stories, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens (until 5 March)
Beat the winter blues at Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: Origin Stories, the newest exhibition at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Attendees can immerse themselves in the rich history of botanical treasures through shape and colour. With colourful displays of orchids and tropical bonsai specimens, the show is perfect for an educational, immersive experience.
Neighbor to Neighbor, Kelly Strayhorn Theater (11 February – 27 May)
A visual art exhibition featuring the works of six artists, is due to open at Kelly Strayhorn Theater on the 11 February. Neighbor to Neighbor is a group concept which portrays equitable and active neighbouring through visual ideas. Text, collages, portraits, dynamic patterns and abstract mapping will be used to display the city of Pittsburgh and what it means to the welcoming community.
Vikings: Warriors of the North Sea, Carnegie Science Center (11 February – 4 September)
Dive deep into the history of Vikings at VIKINGS: Warriors of the North Sea at the Carnegie Science Center from 11 February to 4 September. The limited exhibition features never-before-seen jewellery, clothes, weapons and more. Visitors can feel like a true Viking through the many immersive experience offerings including building their own ship using a touch screen, holding a sword, trying a traditional garb or roleplaying as a Viking.
The Remembering Room (9 March – 20 April)
Opening on 9 March at Atithi Studios for six weeks, The Remembering Room is a free and interactive exhibit that provides a communal healing space and encourages members of the public to process feelings of grief, experience growth and find connections within one another. Visitors will progress through four rooms that represent different stages of grief through surrealist interpretation with spaces to sit and artefacts to interact with. A number of workshops will be held across the six weeks such as ‘write to heal’ and ‘healing art’.

Fly to Pittsburgh six times per week with British Airways (14 May – 28 October)
Following the successful relaunch of the London Heathrow to Pittsburgh International Airport direct flight in 2022, British Airways will increase its current four times weekly service to six services per week. Between 14 May and 28 October, the undiscovered city will be more accessible than ever before, with lights from £442 return.
