Engage Consulting Limited (Engage), in partnership with Nederlands Meet Institute (NMi) and Smart Metering Systems Plc (SMS), is proud to announce that it has been contracted to design and deliver laboratory testing schemes for Demand Side Response (DSR) applications for the Flexibility Innovation Programme funded by the BEIS Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP).
Unlocking the domestic demand side response market is a key enabler in our transition to a secure, flexible energy system in support of the UK government’s ambition to reach net zero by 2050, and the project that will be undertaken will play a crucial role in realising this.
The project will design and deliver conformance and performance laboratory testing of Interoperable Demand Side Response (IDSR) applications, based on the Publicly Applicable Standards (PAS) 1878 and 1879. These applications will include Energy Smart Appliances (ESAs), such as electric vehicle chargers, batteries, white goods and heating systems; and DSR Service Provider (DSRSP) services, such as software platforms and smart control systems.
The consortium brings together three industry-leading organisations, each with highly complementary skills, knowledge and experience. Engage will manage the project and drive the overall technical solution; NMI will design and develop the testing schemes, and provide test execution assurance; and SMS will provide the laboratory facilities and test environment, and execute testing of the DSR appliances.
Richard Cullen, director at Engage, said: “Demand response is widely recognised as being a crucial component of our future energy system. This project will play a key role in progressing the standards and interoperability required to deliver it at scale. Along with our partners NMi and SMS, we are very much looking forward to making this important project a big success”.
